SPACE JUNK
Walking on the sands towards the sea
the moon waxing or waning
stars flashing like blinking lights
a shooting star, drops behind the horizon.
Walking back, the shooting star returns,
pointing up into the sky above us.
Completes the circle of the earth,
then falls out of the sky.
Shining like silver, it lands on the beach,
we run towards it, what else can we do?
A little girl picks it up, shakes it,
throws it back down, ‘Space Junk,’ she says.
It looks like a bicycle lamp to me
and there are little letters stamped on it
that make words that say:
Made in Hong Kong.
So that's where all the litter on the beaches comes from...
ReplyDeleteWow, like how you totally contrast the shooting star with 'made in Hongkong.' Great write.
ReplyDeleteHow clever this is - love the juxtaposition of space and commerce.
ReplyDeleteA clever mix. No junk here.
ReplyDeleteI like how this dream is grounded in reality!
