NaPoWriMo 2010 Day 13
The poetry month is still going strong, and there are some belting prompts over at Read Write Poem . You can check the thirteen entries I've made, over on my SweetTalkingGuy bloggage. Today I did one called How To Time Travel Backwards, and yesterday I did a secret code riddle, which was prompted by Carolee over at Read Write Poem.
LAST YEAR
I did NaPoWriMo last year too, and this year I've put hyperlinks each day to the corresponding day in 2009. It's quite fun to clink~da~links and find out what I was doing a year ago. On this day last year my poem was called Whatamigonnado?
PHEW!
So, phew, if you've got nothing better to do, why not surf on over to SweetTalkingGuy and take a butchers hook? Or better still give RWP a whirl and write something new!

NaPoWriMo 2010 Day 7
HERE'S MINE:
NAPOWRIMO 2010
Hi everybody, I will only be posting my NaPoWriMo entries on my SweetTalkingGuy blog from today. I've been getting loads of hits here and on STG but not very many comments. I think people are too busy in April, I noticed it last year too. Anyway, thanks for reading and visiting this blog and if you're posting a poem a day, I wish you every success.

NaPoWriMo 2010 Day 5
We’ve been in the trenches for a few days, and so Mark Stratton says it’s time to get personal! Here’s Mark’s prompt for Day #5:
Make your poetry personal. I mean, it already is, right? It’s thoughts, observations, deep, dark, personal feelings and stories dressed up in pretty words and oblique descriptions. You get it, and some others get it.
Still others see it as something else entirely, which is great, honestly. We have our own set of filters our lives go through, and this influences how we interpret things. It is part of what makes reading poetry fun and interesting for me.
Today, let’s make poetry really personal. Give poetry, as you write it, a name. Possibly a gender. And a personality. A poet I know has written (and continues to write) a series of poems based on this principle, and I shamelessly ripped it off (with permission, of course) and made a poem I called “Sasha.” Sasha is many things, all at the same time, yet all are Sasha/poetry to me.
So it’s your turn. Give poetry — how you view poetry, what poetry means to you, your poetry — a name. Now write a poem (that) suits your view or vision.
NATASHA
I wrote mine about Natasha, I've mentioned her before in Whatever happened to the corner shop and in Surveillance. Today I asked her what she thought about poets, and she said 'they talk to themselves all day long.' So I wrote down what she said and everytime she said themselves I changed the word to Natasha. It's a bit experimental, so I hope you like it.

NaPoWriMo 2010 Day 4
Nelle Lytle encourages you to keep going with your NaPoWriMo poems by writing inside-out or outside-in. She says: I watch too much HGTV, so I have learned (very well) about bringing the outdoors inside and also turning outside spaces into rooms (which is, apparently, more than putting the old sofa out on the front porch).
In our case, writing inside out (or outside in) means setting your physical or metaphorical inner bits out of doors, to be walked around and looked at from odd angles, as if they were monuments or mailboxes (as an example). Or it could be transforming your internal organs into flowers or letting a pack of four-year-old’s (human or otherwise) loose in your attic. Write a poem today that illustrates your idea of what is inside-out.
Here's mine:
Using the theme 'inside out' I immediately thought of a NaiSaiKu because the title is in the middle instead of at the top.
So here goes, as hosted on

NaPoWriMo 2010 Day 3
Write about something that scares you. It could be tarantulas or your significant other cheating on you or an existential fear of the unknown so long as it unsettles you. Describe it in the most vivid language possible!
Sometimes by articulating our fears, we strip them of their power. (But don’t go too far! A little fear is good to have.)

NaPoWriMo 2010 Day 2
It’s Day 2! And Read Write Poem member Therese Broderick has a great prompt for you. (Please don’t expect the introductions to all of our NaPoWriMo prompts to rhyme):
If you love acronyms as I do, your mind has already shortened “Read Write Poem” into “RWP.” But the three letters RWP form known acronyms for at least 31 other phrases, including “Random Weird Person” and “Right Wing Pundits.”
Today’s writing prompt is to type the letters RWP into the abbreviation search field at Acronym Attic and write a poem inspired in any way by one or more of the resulting phrases. You don’t have to use the words from the phrase in your poem, but you can if they fit. GLWI (Good Luck With It)!

NaPoWriMo 2010 Day 1
Prompted at Read Write Poem:
First up on our prompt-writing roster is Donna Vorreyer, who answered our call for prompts with immediate enthusiasm. Thank you Donna; thank you to all our members who provided prompts!
Donna says she uses this idea all the time for both herself and her students to force new language and connections into drafts.
- Put your iPod or iTunes (or other mp3 player) on shuffle. (If you don’t have a music player that shuffles, you can choose CD or album titles at random from your collection by writing several titles down on little slips of paper … works the same way.)
- Write down the first five titles that come up. No cheating allowed!
- Use all five titles to draft a new poem. They have to be used intact — you can interrupt them with punctuation, but you may not remove or change words.
Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Bohemian Rhapsody, Coney Island Baby, Five Little Speckled Frogs, Where Do You Go To My Lovely.

Sunday Scribblings
HOW’S ABOUT YOU?
The only headache that I’ve got right now is you…
You smash your thoughts into my brain
It’s rainin’ thoughts of sorts I can’t control
Inside my swede, my padded cell was never like this hell
Well every time I hear you yell it wakes me from the coma and
the coffee cup aroma of your breath makes me wanna puke all over you
what can I do?
The only headache that I’ve got right now is you…
Alchemy would be fine for turning water into wine
And every time that I write something new, you steal the tune
You play it on your radio, and I don’t know which way to go
It’s tough being a genius they tell me but hell what do they know?
Don’t call me – ’cos I won’t come running, baby I’ve got better things to do
How’s about you?
The only headache that I’ve got right now is you…
You’re a pain in my Jackson Pollack’s and beyond
There ain’t no magic stick that I can wand – please tell me that
you’re leaving in the morning, ‘cos another day like this is much too much
and such an’ such and all those clichés that you proffer like the trooper
that they all think you are. Why don’t you disappear and make me happy?
Which way to go?
The only headache that I’ve got right now is you…
You force me to surrender my best line, time after time.
And just when I think you’re leaving, you deceive me once again.
You twist everything I say, tie me in knots, lock me up and throw the key away.
And even if I think I’m doing fine you bug me and you mug me over.
So now’s the time, your chance to cheapskate sour grapes and make fine wine.
Guess who's taking followers NOW? I know you love me, but if you follow me I'll LOVE you too!

Okay it's nearly April and that means NaPoWriMo which stands for National Poetry Writing Month. The idea is to write a poem for each day of April. I will be writing one each day on this blog, and posting it to my SweetTalkingGuy bloggage. You can find out more about NaPoWriMo and how you can participate by clinking~the~link to Maureen's site.
IN THE MEANTIME
While you're waiting for this years poem's you can of course check out last years entries. Mine are all listed in the side-bar on SweetTalkingGuy with clickable links to each day. Then again, if you've already read them, you'll find a new one below that I only wrote today. I've thrown in a few Geordie words for good measure, please let me know if you like it.
I'm gannin down to Whitley Bay
To my hinney in her pink pinny.
We'll climb the light-hoose every day
and live on Fish 'n' Chips.
Me North Sea skinny dippin' hinney
she'll flash her bits to passin' ships
and the Limey sailors on the briney
will toss their caps an' shout 'Cor Blimey!'
